Dreaded Dreadmill

I hate the treadmill and since I’m in Seattle working and have to be at the office at 8am I decided I would get up at 5am and run outside by myself for 3 miles, well, when I got up it was about 48 degrees, foggy and very dark and I’m a chicken. So off to the newly renovated exercise facility at the Doubletree, it was actually much better than 95% of most places I’ve been. By the way, this all happened yesterday. They had new Precor machines with TVs integrated into each machine, if you brought your headphones you could even listen (which i didn’t). Apparently the room looks out over a lake, which I couldn’t see because it was dark thirty. The room was cool with of course all guys and their gym shorts and wrinkled cotton tees, here I come with my technical matching top and Adidas shorts and my Garmin strapped to my wrist, water bottle in hand. I ran on the dreaded dreadmill in peace wishing I was outside the entire time, but so glad I wasn’t out there in the dark by myself.

  1. I’m just glad you were able to get your run in… and that you were safe!!!

I had to laugh at the visual of you with all your running gear on 🙂

  2. You know it, I was the poster child of running gear and how you should look when you go to the health club at 5am….

  3. I know how you feel about those dang treadmills… but when winter rolls through here in the Puget Sound (I’m south of Seattle, in Kent…) you do sometimes appreciate being dry. I also know it can be a bit daunting to go out running while traveling in a strange town.

The last time I did a significant run on a business trip was in Pittsburgh where they had a huge park on the edge of town with miles of trails. let’s just say it was dark by the time I figured out my way back to where I was staying. Spooky would be an understatement!!!

  4. By the way… I’m very proud of you for running on the treadmill!!! It would have been very easy to just say forget it and sleep in!!

  5. I sent you an e-mail, but just in case you dont’ get it, check out this blog. I have never read this blog before, how weird I would happen upon it right after you called about your ankle.
